·         Fraud in the INSS and Political Repercussions The scandal involving undue discounts on retirements and pensions from the INSS continues to generate developments. On May 12, Senator Damares Alves and Deputy Colonel Fernanda presented a request for the creation of a Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPMI) to investigate the case. The government announced measures to reimburse the affected retirees and blocked R$ 2.56 billion from 12 associations suspected of involvement in the fraudulent scheme.

On May 13, journalist Malu Gaspar published an article in O Globo revealing that leftist deputies and senators worked to overturn parts of provisional measures and decrees from the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro that made it difficult to impose deductions on retirees and pensioners. On the same day, Senator Sergio Moro held the Lula government responsible for the fraud in the retirements and pensions of the INSS, claiming that the irregularities occurred after the approval of changes that relaxed criteria for the release of funds. Additionally, the Ministry of Social Security dismissed the General Coordinator of Statistical Studies, Service, and Institutional Relations, Guilherme Serrano, who was the president of the INSS during Jair Bolsonaro's administration and is mentioned in the investigation examining the undue deductions  from retirees and pensioners at the INSS, however, he is not under investigation.

·         Advance of the 13th Salary for Retirees The government announced the advance of the 13th salary for INSS beneficiaries, which will be paid in two installments in May and June. The measure will benefit about 30 million people.
