Declaration
by G20 Leaders is approved with consensus
and addresses priority issues, ending wars, taxation of the ultra-rich and AI
The
declaration addresses in detail the three priority themes of the meeting, in
addition to calling for an end to the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip and
the taxation of the ultra-rich – named as "ultra-high net worth
individuals" – and raising concerns about the artificial intelligence,
among other topics (see the main points of the declaration).
The three
priority themes are:
·
agreements
to combat hunger and poverty – the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty
was officially launched;
·
sustainability
and combating climate change;
·
the
reform of global governance, with more representation of emerging countries in
international bodies – such as the United Nations (UN), for example.
How
Russia's revision of
its nuclear doctrine brings the world closer to atomic war
The Kremlin
expanded the spectrum of situations in which it says it considers the use of
its nuclear arsenal legitimate this Tuesday, the same day that the Russians
accused Ukraine of using long-range missiles supplied by the US for attacks on
its territory. The document is four years old and has a bland, bureaucratic
title – "Basic Principles of State Policy on Nuclear Deterrence" –
but its contents are frightening, especially with its most recent revisions. Better
known as Russia's nuclear doctrine, the revised version signed this Tuesday
(19) by President Vladimir Putin lists the circumstances that allow him to use
Moscow's atomic arsenal, the largest in the world.

US
President Joe Biden has given the go-ahead for Ukraine to use US-supplied
long-range missiles to attack Russia, an official source confirmed to CBS News,
the BBC's US partner, on Sunday.
Nine Army
weapons are stolen from a battalion in Paraná; task force attempts to recover
items. The theft was noticed on Sunday (17). These are 9 Beretta pistols,
caliber 9 mm. A Military Police Inquiry established what happened, and military
personnel were mobilized to clarify the situation and assist in the search.

PF
arrests military and federal police suspected of planning murders of Lula,
Alckmin and Moraes. According to the PF, the criminal coup d'état plan would
have been discussed at the home of General Braga Netto - who commanded the
Ministry of Defense and the Civil House during Bolsonaro's presidency.
Ukraine
fires first long-range American missiles at Russia. At the G20 summit in Rio de
Janeiro, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the use of American
missiles was a sign that the West wants to intensify the conflict.

Moscow
changes rules to allow nuclear weapons response.
Russia
launches heavy attack on Ukrainian capital in response to use of long-range
American missiles. The Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 56 Russian drones
that flew into Kiev and other parts of the country. The embassies of the United
States, Italy, Spain and Greece closed this Wednesday (20).
·
The
United States government will allow Ukraine to use landmines supplied by
Washington against Russian forces, United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd
Austin announced this Wednesday (20). The authorization follows approval from
the USA for Kiev to use long-range missiles supplied by the Americans. On
Tuesday (19), Ukraine carried out the first attack on Russian territory using
the artifacts.
Black
Awareness Day,
November 20th, is celebrated throughout the country. This date was chosen
because it was the day of the death of the black leader Zumbi, who fought
against slavery in the northeast. The celebration recalls the importance of
reflecting on the position of black people in society. After all, the
generations of Afro-Brazilians that followed the era of slavery suffered (and
still suffer) different levels of prejudice.

Russia
made another show of
strength in the bombing it carried out against the city of Dnipro, in Ukraine,
on Thursday (21), when it surprised by revealing a new hypersonic ballistic
missile, the Oreshnik. Heir to Soviet power, the country led by Vladimir Putin
has the largest arsenal of ballistic and cruise missiles in the world,
according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a North
American think tank specializing in military equipment. Also according to the
American institute, Russia has "a significant modernization program"
of its arsenal, with "major advances in the field of precision-guided
cruise missiles", production of new variants of weapons and "with
significantly advanced capabilities".

Negotiators
at COP29 are trying to reach an agreement to establish the financing that rich
countries must provide to developing nations to tackle global warming. The
meetings in Baku resume this Saturday (November 23) after a night of talks
without a consensus.
The 29th
United Nations (UN) climate conference, COP29, reached an agreement this
Saturday (23) on the final text that will summarize the Baku climate
negotiations. One of the central points of COP29 was the decision on the annual
financing target of around a trillion dollars, an amount requested by
developing countries from rich countries to finance global climate action. The
new text of the "COP of Finance", as this summit is being called,
however, presented a target of US$300 billion per year. The figure is higher
than the number released in last Friday's draft (US$250 billion annually), but
far below the US$1.3 trillion requested by developing countries, including
Brazil's Environment Minister, Marina Silva.

Dozens
of people died in Israeli bombings in the north of the Gaza Strip, devastated
by more than a year of war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement
Hamas. More than 200 residents of the Gaza Strip, most of them children, died
in the last 24 hours as a result of air and artillery strikes by the Israeli
Army in different parts of the Palestinian enclave. Nineteen Palestinians were
killed and more than 40 injured in three massacres caused by Israeli airstrikes
in the Gaza Strip.
Brazil still
has 1.2 million people in homes without a bathroom; 5.4 million live with 4 or
more, according to the Census IBGE published in this Last Friday data on
sanitation in the country. Numbers show that the share of those living without
a bathroom fell from 7.7% in 2010 to 0.6% in 2022. Advances occurred in all
regions, but the North and Northeast still have a worse scenario than the
Central-West, Southeast and South 12 years ago.
Good!
