Rio Sambódromo celebrates 40 years with different lighting
on the first day of Grupo Especial parades
The first day of Grupo Especial parades, in Rio de Janeiro,
marked the 40th anniversary of the Sambadrome. And the lights of Marquês de
Sapucaí were part of the presentations.
Porto
da Pedra
Porto da Pedra spent 12 years away from the Special Group.
On the way back, he found a different catwalk. The lights go out and the
crowd's gaze turns to the main spot. It is the Carnival tradition being renewed
with stage lighting.
And it's hard for your eyes to believe what you're seeing.
The floating alchemist is a ballerina held by her hair. The illuminated Bahian
women look like heaven on Earth.
One of the cars had problems entering Sapucaí and a woman
was slightly injured in the impact. Throughout the parade, the school known as
Tigre de São Gonçalo materialized on the avenue the wonders of Lunário
Perpétuo, a medieval encyclopedia of popular wisdom.

such a well-known voice.
“This is the 48th carnival. It’s like it was the first
time”, says Neguinho from Beija-flor.
Lulled by the singer's voice, the straw Hummingbird flew to
Maceió. The public dived on the beaches of Alagoas and even saw bubbles at the
bottom of the sea. Did the lights dance to the beat of the drums - or was it
the drums that played in time with the lights? The parade was the coronation of
Ras Gonguila, the man from Alagoas who called himself prince of Ethiopia.
Whether it was true no one knows, but, at least for one night, Gonguila was
king of Nilópolis and Sapucaí.
Salgueiro
At the carnival of lights, Salgueiro didn't even start
parading and already lit up the catwalk with music alone. The public
immediately recognized the tribute to Quinho, the school's interpreter for more
than 30 years, who died in January. The 2024 samba also came to be remembered
for decades.
Hutukara! A cry in defense of the Yanomami people. The
school impressed with its giant sculptures. But the greatest of the giants was
a human being. Davi Kopenawa, the defender of the Yanomami people, the leader,
the writer, the shaman, the voice that, when he speaks, the whole world listens
to.
“My message to the general world to feel like removing
intruders from my home. The fight is to protect the soul of the Amazon forest”,
says Davi Kopenawa.

Rio
Grande Rio discovered that every Brazilian has a jaguar

here just waiting for Paolla (Oliveira) to show us”, says actress Taís Araújo.
